You are capable of more than you know. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path. Aim high. Behave honorably. Prepare to be alone at times, and to endure failure. Persist! The world needs all you can give.
E. O. Wilson

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds the most discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but "That's funny..." ~Isaac Asimov

Mitosis Resources!

Hi Everyone!
Here are some Mitosis resources that we are using in class. This should be a helpful place for you to see all of these at your leisure.

Here is a link to the Powerpoint I showed in class as a Google Document.  It should be open and available to the public.  Mitosis Powerpoint

Happy Snowfall!

Hope everyone is having a good snow day!  With snow on the ground, its much easier to see what creatures are visiting your backyard!  Here's a poster of animal tracks in case you're out and would like to do some investigating!
Also, I don't know if your families feed the outside birds, but snow days are a great time do do birdwatching!  Here is one of my favorite bird feeding websites, and here is a poster of common feeder birds in our area!

Have a happy snow day!  Potentially seeing you tomorrow!

Martin Luther King Jr.

Even though Paoli uses this as a day on, as citizens of the US we should take a moment to appreciate and examine Dr. King's life and legacy today.  Watch the "I have a dream" speech.  It's a really powerful piece of rhetoric and has a message that everyone should remember.

Wow.

Don't smoke guys.  Ever.

Just for fun.

Hi Everyone!
I know that a lot of you don't read this, and maybe I'm just writing to myself at this point, but I just came across this article on the BBC about lasers and I thought it was awesome.  Why?  Because they aren't any old laser, they're anti-pirate lasers.  That's right.  They're lasers designed to protect ships from pirates.  Sometimes, life is pretty amazing.  If you recover from the awesomeness of the laser article, you might also check this one out.  It's about butterfly sex.  It's pretty neat.  And there's a video.
Potentially seeing you tomorrow!

Breadmaking and fermentation!

  This is part 1

And here's part 2

Here are the two links for the Good Eats bread-making videos. It's 20 mins long, but it's in two parts, because of time limit youtube laws and whatnot.

Good luck on the extra credit.  If you would like to watch some more Good Eats, which I highly reccommend, because it's awesome, and I've never had a Good Eats recipe fail (except for the first time my fiance's parents came over for dinner, but that is more of a worst possible case scenario), here is the link to the page of the wonderful person who has posted most of them on YouTube.  They also air on the Foodnetwork from time to time, once at 5 or 6 and then again at 11 (but you should be in bed by then.)  Enjoy!

Recap of January 3rd and 4th, Advanced

Monday I did an introduction, and passed out the 8-1 study guide that should have been turned in Tuesday, along with a form for parents to sign.  Today, we covered 8-2 and 8-3, and I handed out to you the writing prompt for the essay due on Monday, the 8-2 and 8-3 study guide due on Friday, and a pre-lab assignment for the photosynthesis lab we're doing tomorrow.
